11-24 11/24-26/2012

We started the trip back home today, instead of trying to drive the 500+ miles back in one day. We took an alternate way back on the back-roads. The route took us through McAlester, OK....where my Dad was born. We stopped by Lake Thunderbird State Park, just SE of OK City, to check it out for a place to spend the night. The lake is horribly low, and the surrounding area is pretty run down. It didn't give me the warm fuzzies....felt like I needed to carry a gun. So, we went on to Fort Cobb State Park. Ft. Cobb is a "resort and golfing" park. The signs are non-existant to direct you to camping areas unless you closely watch the few park signs for the camper picture. We found a very nice spot about 75 yards from the marina. A gentleman who was parked in the campground volunteered information on good sites. It was after dark when we got here.....We can hear what must be thousands of geese talking on the lake. Very glad to say they are not near....could be a very noisy night! I had a "blast from the past": We had the radio on in the trailer, listening to KOMA FM out of OKie City. Still playing the great rock/pop hits from the 60s forward. I listened to KOMA AM at night at home when I was a kid, and they played the same style music. 293 Miles for the day.
